Dave CartwrightMy name is Dave Cartwright and I have been John Thomson's business partner for the past 2 years.

I first started training at New Physique around 15 years ago. At the time I worked in the conservatory industry and was generating a good income. I have always enjoyed being quite active, as you can see from my snowboarding pictures taken this year.

Over the years John Thomson and I have developed a great friendship, his expertise in training and nutrition have helped me immensely. When I first started training I weighed around 10 stone, I had very little muscle and was carrying some unwanted body fat. Once I started having personal training with John I soon lost a stone of body fat, then began to build some much wanted muscle.

John’s whole approach to training and his passion for helping people by telling them the truth really struck a chord with me.

It didn’t take me long to realise that, sadly, people attending gyms were getting very little results doing what the fitness industry as a whole was prescribing them. Almost every fitness centre bases everything they do around new membership sales. This is because the drop out rate is massive, as very few people get the results they were promised when they signed up.

“why not tell people the truth, help them step by step to make changes and the results will be dramatic.”

John’s idea has always been “why not tell people the truth, help them step by step to make changes, and the results will be dramatic.”  This way you get happy members who will stay with you and, best of all, tell others.

I saw this as a massive opportunity and something I would very much like to be a part of, and as they say, the rest is history.

Dave CartrightOver time using the Thomson Personal Training system of results, and with John’s guidance I developed my skills as a personal trainer in my own right.  I have a great passion for helping and training people. When a client comes to you they often have very low self esteem, and can be very unhappy with the way they look. Once they start to achieve some of their goals a new happier, confident person emerges. This is something I find very rewarding; there aren’t many jobs that truly help to change people’s lives.

As for myself, I have now put on almost 4 stone of lean muscle, and can squat nearly 500 lbs....  not bad for someone who once was overweight with very little muscle tone !!
